I have been singing my entire life.  I hope to share all the different kinds of music I love with you.

My Story

I grew up hearing my trained tenor father sing opera arias in the shower and have been singing for as long as I can remember.  I grew up in the San Fernando Valley area of Southern California, and lived most of my adult life in the San Gabriel Valley, then in Burbank, until moving with retired husband, Jeff, to the Illinois Valley of Southern Oregon in April of 2014.

I sang in chorus in elementary school, was doing folk & pop songs with guitar as a 'tween, and sang in choral groups throughout junior & senior high school, forming a girls’ trio in junior high, and soloing with my high school choir.   First musical theatre role was also in high school - "Julie Jordan" in Carousel, and I began studying voice privately at that time, working classical songs, theatre music, & standards.  I had wanted to be a veterinarian, so studied biology in college, with a music minor so I could continue voice lessons, but started to get paying singing work as I graduated.  I kept the part-time office job and continued in the performing arts.

A long and varied professional career ensued - roles in regional musical theatre venues in Southern California and Southern Oregon, national tours as principal soprano with Gilbert & Sullivan repertory company Opera a la Carte 1986-2003, church and temple jobs as chorister and soloist, and put together revues and concerts for venues like library & community series as well as senior facilities. I was co-founder of the ground-breaking ensemble Campanile, which took traditional English Handbells and created percussion theatre, touring nationally and internationally 1986-2006.  I was also a founding member of Elemental Harmony, an a cappella women's vocal trio with an eclectic repertoire, for several years.

From 2003-2006, I did my Master of Fine Arts in Voice Performance at California Institute of the Arts, emphasizing 20th & 21st century classical vocal works. I was privileged to play roles in world & North American opera premieres, perform the compositions of fellow graduate students on their recitals & mine, and work with wonderful teachers and fellow students. My graduation recital was a funded inter-disciplinary project, with songs & vocal chamber music composed by living women - all but one American. I had costumes, set pieces & props, dancers, and a narrator.

Later that year, 2006, I was introduced to violinist & composer Maria Newman (youngest child of academy-award winning film composer Alfred Newman & wife Martha Montgomery, former Goldwyn Girl), and was soon part of the chamber music house concert series in Malibu, which she produced with her husband & fellow musician, Scott Hosfeld. By the 90's I had been teaching private voice, and taught Maria's oldest 3 children.

Since moving to Oregon, family conservatorship/estate duties have slowed me down a bit, but I have sung with Southern Oregon Repertory Singers out of Ashland, under Paul French, in our own season and as core chorus for Rogue Valley Symphony and Britt Festival. Since 2015, I have been chorister & soloist with Jefferson Baroque Orchestra.  I done house concerts with fellow JBO singer, Lauren Pomerantz. We performed at various venues under Lauren’s Songbird Music Salon Concerts label - her home in the Phoenix/Medford area, the home of a JBO colleague violinist in Grants Pass, the Southern Oregon Guild of Artists and Artisans Gallery in Kerby, and the United Methodist Church in Cave Junction.   I have been on the board of the Illinois River Valley Arts Council since 2016.

I started teaching voice in Oregon in December 2016. I also now have a house concert partnership with Takilma pianist Pat Mersman and have done two concert programs with her so far.  My husband and I began a re-construction building project at home summer of 2017, and this 1878 Carriage House will not only become a workshop downstairs, but music library & house concert/community event space upstairs.

I have been a part of the Science Fiction/Fantasy music community for a while now  I have partnered with fellow “filk singer,” Callie Hills, to get the wonderful music of her former duo “Echo’s Children” out in the world again. We have been featured artists at conventions since 2017, including concerts at Orycon in Portland and the World Science Fiction Convention when it was in San Jose, California in 2018.  I do my own solo repertoire as well and have had concerts at Orycon and Westercon.

I continue to look for more professional opportunities in the Illinois and Rogue Valleys, including returning to performances for senior residential facilities, libraries and schools, as well as church and synagogue music, and, eventually, the theatre stage.
